We all need CPR and I never thought I had to use it until one day I was working with another assistant and a dentist and we were working on the patient and at the time I had to hold the head because it was a pediatric office that did not provide head stabilizers but instead used the assistant and so as it was my turn and I was sitting there, I heard the young kid start to grasp for air as the other two were working and did not notice so I said something and took him out of the papoose with out one question my gut new he was choking well when I got him out he said I am choking and I said NOT today your not. I first wanted to just slap his back but my CPR training came in and I said no to myself and realize soon I had to do the Heimlich on him and he was almost my height ! Well I placed my hands in the right spot and when I pushed in on the 3rd try it came flying out! hit the wall with a sound of course it was a ss crn. I know now that the office did not call the ambulance to have him check out or that should be done to make sure no damage was done and if ever someone is choking you must help do not walk away! Save money and renewed with this program I came across to help save time and money and best part is you can watch over and over in case your faced with this you know what to do because this did not happen until 20 years of me being in the field and that means I had many CPR courses and I was still nervous and the other two in the room froze on me and the patient so don't expect others to do it! We are all human and freeze up. You must be ready with not this course then any and know what to do. Tip: Use a 2x2 gauze open it up and lay it across the throat to help retrieve fallen item of any kind. If not this then assistant's pay attention at all times even when the hand-piece is off and have suction in hand if crown or what not falls! Be your Dentist back up at all times for safety of patient. If you think your suction might get clog during procedure have a patient cup of water to clean lines or back up one near by that can be reach and grabbed but not contaminated so you don't waste it in case you don't need it.
