The study of side effects of substances encountered in odontology by patients and the dental team must include the direct and indirect effects of irradiation emitted from polymerisation devices.
The eyes of the Dental professionals are at risk from acute & cumulative effects, mainly due to the back-reflection of the blue light. Also phototoxic and photoallergic reactions originating from absorbed radiation in endogenous or exogenous substances accumulated in the Dental staff eyes and skin (hands) even the patients' oral mucosa must also be taken into consideration. Preventive measures include reading the manufacturer's' operating instructions for curing devices and using radiation-filtering protection goggles. Reminder if you stay to long on one tooth you can damage the patient's tooth with hurting the pulp and if parent or someone is in room ask them not to look at light also.

Oh yes it can be and I am not going to sugar coat it. I have seen great doctors loose their cool along with other staff members including myself having my breakdown moments starting out trying to be perfect and back then we had a dark room we could cry in or cut the cheese real quick ,Come on now! The Dental Professionals have tummy issues most the time to because we have to hold it all the time to focus on our patients and I have suffer from IBS because of that very reason and I once work with a hygienist who had Crohn's disease and was to afraid to share it with her Boss because being older was worried about being replaced and that is only from stress of stinking thinking also! You have an issue at work , just let it out and speak to your boss and if it is your boss the are human they put their gloves on one at a time also. I use to be so scared of DDS but that was because of my age. You should always respect your boss bottom-line because they sign your check and put food on your table and assistants are replaceable no matter how many years you worked there. Don't ever get above yourself with new assistants coming in. Dentist have so much stress on them and the more you can do to help them within limits the better off you will be as a valuable employee , so learn some jokes, Keep a smile on your face and once home or throughout the day, take a few deep breaths , and start this habit NOW! Start taking care of yourself now in this field.

hand problems
Your hands come in contact with EVERYTHING and we are taught at an early age to wash our hands but after teaching a course with a blacklight once the germs still on the hands after my students washed them a few times, was an eye opener! Make sure you get around the thumbs and wrist which are the most missed places. Etch and bond can make the glove weaker and effect skin so be careful. Lotions are used throughout the day to help your hands from becoming dry.
YOUR GLOVES SHOULD NOT BE TO TIGHT OR WILL CAUSE CARPULE TUNNEL IF TOO LOOSE THEN WILL DROP A SMALL OBJECT LIKE A CROWN OR BRACKET.
It is recommended to use hand lotion in between or after glove use only. If you are to use hand cream or lotion under Adenna latex exam gloves, please choose one that is water-based and not petroleum.
